Sana’a University CCTLT Bridges Academic Training and Professional Practice through Field Visit by Translation Students

The Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana’a University received a field visit yesterday by 40 third-year students from the Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages, under the supervision of Prof. Mujeeb Qasim, Head of the Department and Faculty Vice Dean. The visit formed part of the Center’s efforts to strengthen integration between academic training and practical application and to enable students to gain first-hand insight into the professional translation workplace and the requirements of professional practice.
The visiting students were received by Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, the Center’s Director, Prof. Abdulwadood Annuzaili ,Head of Translation Department, and Dr. Faisal Al-Dawli, Head of the Translation Unit. They welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of field visits in developing translation students’ skills and linking the theoretical knowledge and concepts they acquire in the classroom with practical applications and the realities of the labor market.
At the beginning of the visit, Prof. Tagaddeen delivered an introductory presentation on the Center’s mission and its academic, training, and professional roles, as well as its educational and professional development programs in the fields of translation and language teaching. He also highlighted the specialized translation services provided by the Center to individuals and institutions and its role in preparing professionals well-equipped with academic knowledge and professional competence.
The students were also introduced to the nature of work carried out by the Center’s Translation Unit and gained first-hand insight into the stages involved in executing translation projects, beginning with the receipt and analysis of documents, followed by translation, editing, revising, and proofreading, and culminating in final formatting in accordance with quality requirements and recognized professional standards.
The visit also included an overview of the types of specialized documents and translation projects handled by the Unit. Discussions addressed some of the key challenges translators encounter when working with official documents, commercial contracts, and other specialized texts, as well as introducing the students to the principal professional approaches and techniques used to process such materials.
The Director of the Center emphasized that organizing such visits reflects the Center’s commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional practice and to providing educational and training opportunities that enable students to gain a real understanding of the profession and its requirements. He noted that such initiatives contribute to enhancing students’ professional readiness and preparing qualified translators capable of meeting the demands of the labor market.
The visit forms part of the CCTLT training and professional development plan, which seeks to enhance students’ language and translation skills, provide an integrated educational and training environment, and strengthen communication and partnerships with faculties of languages and translation departments at Yemeni universities.
