Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Continues “Second Course for Temporal Bone Surgical Anatomy ” Activities with Precise Surgical Applications

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University continued today, for the second consecutive day, the activities of the “Second Course for Temporal Bone Surgical Anatomy “. Organized by the university as part of advanced medical training programs, the course targets board doctors and postgraduate (MD) students in specialized microsurgery.
The second day’s activities were attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, who inspected the progress of training sessions in the ear surgery laboratory at the Simulation Lab and reviewed the nature of hands-on training and practical applications performed by participants.
Prof. Al-Shehari commended the level of advanced technical equipment and the scientific discipline of the participants, reaffirming Sana’a University’s commitment to adopting and conducting specialized programs and courses that transition medical personnel from theoretical knowledge to precise clinical application, raising surgeon and physician competence to reflect positively on community healthcare services.
The Faculty Dean affirmed that conducting such specialized surgical courses reflects Sana’a University’s trend toward promoting applied medical education and advancing clinical training standards. He noted that the university, represented by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, works to equip its medical staff with precise surgical skills matching modern medical standards and practices, qualifying surgeons with the competency and skill required to deliver safe and distinguished healthcare.
The agenda for the second day focused entirely on practical and applied aspects through an intensive training program extending approximately seven hours inside the anatomy lab, comprising specialized scientific and practical sessions to ensure maximum benefit for participants.
The day began with an orientation session in the laboratory where participants were briefed on occupational safety requirements and proper, safe techniques for handling fine surgical instruments. This was followed by a live surgical demonstration presented by the course lead trainer, covering the optimal use of the surgical microscope and drill when dealing with delicate bone structures.
Following the live demonstration, participants engaged in guided practical dissection sessions. The first session focused on step-by-step training on the cortical mastoidectomy technique, while the second session was dedicated to training on posterior tympanotomy and facial nerve exposure, emphasizing surgical precision and the preservation of surrounding vital structures.
This specialized course comes as part of Sana’a University’s efforts to develop continuous medical training programs, enhance specialized practical education, and provide medical and surgical staff with precise skills aligned with the latest medical standards and practices in ear and temporal bone-related skull base surgery.
