Sana’a University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Celebrates Graduation of 35th Batch of Physicians

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University held a formal ceremony this morning to honor the graduation of its 35th batch of physicians from the Human Medicine Program. The event celebrated 380 new doctors, a testament to the University’s enduring mission to develop qualified medical professionals who serve both the nation and humanity.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including His Excellency the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hasan Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti. They were joined by the University’s Vice Rector, Prof. Mohammed Shukri and Dr. Abdulhafedh Thawaba; the Faculty Dean, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari; the Head of the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority, Prof. Mohammed Jahaf; and the Director General of Kuwait Hospital, Prof. Abdulateef Abu Taleb. Also in attendance were Faculty vice-deans, faculty members, representatives from health and educational institutions, and numerous academics and guests.
In his address, His Excellency Minister Al-Saadi extended his sincere congratulations to the graduates. He affirmed that the graduation of this batch demonstrates the University’s continued capacity to supply the health sector with qualified personnel, despite the country’s exceptional circumstances.
The Minister stressed the importance of graduates continuing their academic journeys through specialized programs and medical fellowships. He highlighted a significant shortage of staff in highly specialized fields and emphasized the need to redouble efforts to meet the needs of hospitals and health facilities across cities, villages, and remote areas. “The nation today is in dire need of these doctors,” Al-Saadi stated. “Your religious and national duty requires you to invest your experience and skills in serving your people and to leverage your scientific standing for good deeds, health awareness, and the building of a healthier, more conscious society.”
Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to its national and intellectual mission of preparing medical professionals who have elevated Yemen’s reputation in international forums. He noted that many of the Faculty’s graduates now practice medicine in Arab and foreign countries, demonstrating a high standard of professional competence. “This university is not merely an educational institution; it is a national and humanitarian edifice that has shouldered the responsibility of preparing physicians capable of serving people and preserving human life,” Prof. Al-Bukhaiti stated.
The University Rector also highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education to designate Kuwait Hospital as a University Hospital under Sana’a University’s administration. He explained that the hospital now provides advanced treatment services to citizens with high capabilities and at minimal cost, strengthening community trust and establishing a new phase of academic and medical development. “The humanitarian and therapeutic services provided by Kuwait University Hospital today make us proud of every doctor who graduates from this Faculty and entrust them with the responsibility of continuing this path, advancing the sacred profession they have chosen,” he added.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, the Faculty Dean, welcomed the distinguished attendees and expressed his deep appreciation for their participation. He stated that their presence reflects the scientific standing of the Faculty and its vital role in community service.
Dean Al-Shehari emphasized that the Faculty is implementing comprehensive development plans to update curricula, enhance clinical training, and strengthen medical skills programs. This ensures the graduation of physicians equipped with the necessary scientific, practical, and ethical competencies to serve their communities.
He noted that, despite challenges, the Faculty has maintained the quality of its medical education through a qualified academic staff, modern training programs, and effective institutional partnerships.
The celebration featured several speeches reflecting on the batch’s journey, as well as presentations of the research and practical activities undertaken by the students during their studies. The Faculty Dean, department heads, professors, and graduates were honored for their contributions.
The ceremony concluded with the graduates reciting the Physician’s Oath—a moment rich with ethical and national significance, marking the beginning of their new chapter of service in the medical and humanitarian field
