Widely Acclaimed: Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Concludes Joint Scientific Conference on Cardiovascular Surgery

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University today concluded a landmark medical event: the 5th Scientific Conference on Vascular Surgery, the 3rd Scientific Conference on Cardiac Surgery, and the 1st Faculty Conference on Cardiovascular Surgery. The joint conference was organized in partnership with the Yemeni Society for Vascular Surgery and spanned three days of intensive scientific and research activities.
The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohammed Al Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Prof. Nabil Al Madhwahi, President of the Yemeni Society for Vascular Surgery; Dr. Ali Mohammed Fadhel, Secretary General of the Conference; Dr. Saleh Al Omari, Conference Chair; and Prof. Mohammed Al Shujaa, Head of the Preparatory Committee.
Conference activities opened Tuesday with specialized workshops designed to strengthen the skills of young medical professionals. Wednesday marked the official inauguration, featuring scientific sessions and discussions led by leading consultants and physicians from Yemen and abroad.
The final day featured an intensive scientific agenda across several specialized sessions. Topics included vascular trauma, addressing complex vascular injuries under wartime conditions; heart valve diseases, with a focus on the latest techniques in valve replacement and surgical interventions during pregnancy; vascular interventions and catheterization, highlighting modern approaches to treating venous occlusions and peripheral arterial diseases; as well as vascular tumor surgery and lymphatic disorders. Sessions also addressed advanced strategies for managing varicose veins and vascular tumors.
A dedicated Diabetic Foot (PAVA Session) focused on comprehensive care for diabetic foot patients and strategies to reduce limb amputations. The sessions were further enriched by live virtual contributions from international experts based in Egypt, Jordan, Germany, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, adding a global dimension to the scientific dialogue.
During the closing ceremony, the organizing committee honored the working teams and supporting entities that contributed to the conference’s success. Awards were also presented to authors of the best research papers and outstanding scientific contributions, in recognition of their role in advancing medical knowledge in Yemen.
The conference concluded with a set of key recommendations:
• Adopting unified national protocols and guidelines for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
• Developing Yemeni fellowship and PhD programs, particularly in interventional vascular surgery.
• Establishing specialized centers in public hospitals across various governorates.
• Providing solutions for emergency case management and ensuring free treatment for critical conditions.
• Continuing to organize scientific conferences and strengthening partnerships with Arab and regional medical centers.
• Launching ongoing awareness campaigns through media and social platforms to promote cardiovascular disease prevention.
