Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Accelerates International Accreditation (WFME) Progress and Reviews Comprehensive Infrastructure Modernization

The Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University held an expanded meeting today, presided over by Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, the Faculty Dean, to discuss the executive roadmap for achieving international academic accreditation under the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
The high-level session was attended by Vice Dean for Student Affairs Prof. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Quality Affairs Prof. Ahmed Mujahed, National Expert Prof. Saleh Bahaj, and Steering Committee member Prof. Molham Al-Habori, alongside several academic and medical department heads.
During the meeting, Dean Al-Shehari emphasized that pursuing WFME accreditation is a strategic priority designed to guarantee the quality of medical education. This milestone will ensure that the faculty’s graduates remain globally competitive and that their qualifications receive international recognition, facilitating professional mobility worldwide. The initiative aims to align the university’s programs with the highest global benchmarks to protect and advance medical education standards.
Mr. Marwan Al-Mikhlafi, Secretary of the Faculty, presented an update on the extensive modernization projects currently underway. These developments include:
• Upgrading lecture halls, laboratories, and specialized medical clinics.
• Rehabilitating building facades and expanding green spaces to create a conducive learning atmosphere.
• Implementing a new institutional visual identity and an updated campus signage system.
These physical enhancements are being executed in parallel with the academic requirements for international accreditation, reflecting the university leadership’s commitment to a holistic institutional evolution.
The committee reviewed the current status of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) required by the WFME. Discussions focused on:
• Assessing readiness across all evaluation criteria.
• Enhancing coordination between scientific departments and the administration to ensure real-time data and documentation accuracy.
• Optimizing clinical and administrative services across various departments.
Vice Deans and department heads shared progress reports, noting the significant improvements in the academic and training environment resulting from the recent service-oriented developments.
The meeting concluded with a call for unified efforts between academic and administrative staff. The leadership stressed the importance of accelerating the workflow to meet all accreditation criteria within the designated timeframe, ultimately positioning Sana’a University’s Faculty of Medicine among the leading medical institutions regionally and internationally.
