Sana’a University journalism and electronic publishing female students commenced their practical training program at the Yemen News Agency (Saba) in Sana’a this Sunday. Led by Mr. Ali Mahdi, Head of the Local News Department, the initiative is part of the Faculty of Mass Communication’s ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and professional practice.
The first day of the program provided students with an in-depth look at the internal mechanics of a national news agency. Students were introduced to the full news cycle, including sourcing raw information, editing, drafting, translation, and final publication in accordance with established editorial policies.
During their field tour, the students visited the agency’s six specialized news and production units. Key areas of focus included:
• Understanding the mechanisms of news gathering and processing.
• Utilizing advanced media tools and digital communication techniques.
• Learning professional methods for organizing, storing, and retrieving news data.
• Observing the agency’s scope of coverage across local, regional, and international levels.
The opening session also featured practical workshops on drafting various news formats and managing content distribution across the agency’s official website and social media platforms.
Participating students expressed their gratitude to Dr. Omar Daer Al-Bukaiti, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and Prof. Ali Al-Ammar, Head of the Journalism Department, for their dedication to enhancing the curriculum with high-caliber field opportunities. They also extended their appreciation to the leadership and staff at Saba News Agency for their warm reception and mentorship.
This training program is a result of the strategic cooperation between Sana’a University and Saba News Agency. It aims to develop a new generation of qualified journalists capable of navigating the modern media landscape and contributing effectively to the national media industry.
