Initially, a department of media was established under the Faculty of Arts, Sana’a University, in 1991, with Dr. Raufa Hassan serving as its inaugural head for one year. She was subsequently succeeded by Dr. Mohammed Abduljabbar Sallam, who chaired the department from 1992 until 1996. During the 1996/1997 academic year, the Faculty of Mass Communication was formally established at Sana’a University’s New Campus as a specialized institution dedicated to media studies, comprising three academic departments: Public Relations and Advertising, Radio and Television, and Journalism and Electronic Publishing. The Faculty's student enrollment capacity is estimated at approximately 150 seats for the general (regular) admission system and around 100 seats for the parallel enrollment system. To date, the Faculty proudly celebrates the graduation of 32 batches, spanning up to the 2025/2026 academic year.
