Department of Translation Hosts Hands-On Event to Connect Academic Learning with Professional Skills

The Department of Translation at the Faculty of Languages hosted a specialized hands-on event focused on communication skills. The initiative aimed to enhance students’ public speaking, presentation, dialogue, and persuasion techniques, translating classroom theory into practical applications that reflect real-world academic and professional demands.
The event featured an interactive exhibition depicting communication concepts, tools, and methodologies through dynamic display boards, photographs, and expressive media. Attendees toured the stalls, where students delivered presentations explaining the core themes and messages behind their projects.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Nasser, Dean of the Faculty of Languages, officially opened the exhibition with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was joined by Dr. Mujeeb Qasem, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Academic Affairs and Head of the Translation Department; Dr. Akram Al-Jahfali, Vice Dean for Student Affairs; along with department heads and student activities representatives.
The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran followed by the national anthem. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mujeeb Qasem highlighted the crucial role of the communication skills course in fostering student confidence, articulation, and interpersonal engagement. He noted that experiential learning events provide vital opportunities for students to bridge academic concepts with real-world practice, offering his gratitude to the faculty advisor, student organizers, and participants.
Dr. Najat Al-Baadani, course instructor and event coordinator, outlined the core pillars of the curriculum. She emphasized its focus on team dynamics, active listening, structured presentation, and persuasive reasoning in workplace scenarios. She noted that mastering these skills is a key differentiator for graduates entering a competitive job market.
Dr. Abdulwadood Annuzaili, Head of the Department of English, commended the organization and caliber of the event, stating that practical showcases empower students to engage live audiences, build self-assurance, and reinforce collaborative learning. Additionally, faculty member Ali Salah delivered an inspiring address, encouraging students to leverage such platforms to overcome public speaking anxiety and express their ideas fearlessly.
Second-year students presented a series of multilingual showcases highlighting the history and growth of the Faculty of Languages, offering overviews in Arabic, English, French, Persian, German, and Turkish to reflect the institution’s cultural diversity. Student presentations also addressed career prospects, industry challenges, and future academic ambitions.
A central highlight of the day was a series of live student debates. Participants applied structured argumentation, active listening, and persuasive rhetoric while engaging respectfully with opposing viewpoints, demonstrating strong audience presence and self-conviction.
