Faculty of Petroleum Organizes Field Trip for Fourth-Year Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering Students Sana’a – September 17, 2025
Sana’a – September 17, 2025
The Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources at Sana’a University, in cooperation with the General Administration of Student Activities, organized an applied scientific field trip for fourth-year students from the Departments of Earth Sciences and Petroleum & Gas Engineering.
The three-day trip, launched on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, covered several Yemeni governorates, with key stops in Sana’a, Hodeida, Bura’ Nature Reserve, Raymah, and Dhamar.
The trip was supervised by a distinguished group of faculty members and administrators, including:
• Prof. Ibrahim Al-Akhaly
• Assoc. Prof. Khalid Al-Selwi
• Assoc. Prof. Adnan Barahim
• Lecturer Safwan Al-Samie
• Lecturer Mohammed Makaber
• Lecturer Khalid Al-Yanaei
Day One – Hodeida Governorate: Students received an in-depth review of Yemen’s geological history, including the formation periods of various rock units along the route to Hodeida and the structural features they contain.
Day Two – Bura’ Nature Reserve & Raymah: En route, students examined prominent sandstone outcrops of the Tawilah Group, marked by faults and igneous dikes. They practiced measuring dip and strike using geological compasses. At the reserve, students studied acidic igneous rocks, particularly granite, and analyzed the processes that brought them to the surface and their structural features. The tour continued to Raymah, where students observed basement granite formations containing numerous dikes and faults, as well as evidence of weathering and erosion. The day concluded with travel through Raymah to Al-Sharq district and onward to Dhamar city.
Day Three – Dhamar to Sana’a: On the return journey, students made stops to study volcanic geological sections, identifying structural features such as faults and dikes, and applying field techniques to measure their orientation and angles.
