Scientific Visit by Students of the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources to the Central Laboratories of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Board

As part of the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources’ orientation toward enhancing the integration between academic qualification and practical application, second-level students specializing in Mineral Resources and Geology organized a field scientific visit to the Central Laboratories affiliated with the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Board (GSMRB) of the Ministry of Oil and Minerals in the Republic of Yemen.
The visit aimed to introduce the students to the scientific methodologies and procedures followed in handling rock and mineral samples, as well as to familiarize them with the stages of their preparation and processing—starting from sampling out of their natural sources, passing through preparation and treatment operations, and culminating in studying, examining, and analyzing them using specialized laboratory equipment and techniques.
During the visit, the students were briefed on the nature of work in the Central Laboratories, and listened to specialized explanations regarding the mechanisms of geochemical and mineralogical testing and analysis, alongside the accuracy of the scientific procedures and standards adopted in analyzing samples and determining their properties and components.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the students to experience the specialized work environment closely and observe practical applications of the knowledge and skills they acquire in their academic courses, thereby contributing to the enhancement of their scientific capabilities and preparing them for the requirements of work in geological and mineral fields.
The participating students expressed satisfaction with the scientific explanations and practical applications included in the visit, affirming that the experience contributed to expanding their knowledge and linking the theoretical aspect with practical applications within a specialized institutional work environment.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources and the participating students expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Board and the management of the Central Laboratories for the facilities and attention they provided, which contributed to the success of the visit. They also commended the efforts of the experts, geologists, chemists, and technical cadres working in the laboratories for the guidance and scientific explanations they provided to the students.
The Faculty emphasized the importance of continuing such scientific and field visits, given their educational value in developing students’ skills and enhancing the connection between university education programs and the needs of the labor market and specialized institutions in the fields of geology and mineral resources.
