PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Mohammed Nasser Al-Taweel in in Journalism and Electronic Publishing

Mr. Mohammed Nasser Ahmed Mohammed Al-Taweel was awarded a PhD degree in the major of Journalism and Electronic Publishing for his dissertation titled, “Media Richness on Arabic News Websites and Their Social Media Platforms, and its Relationship with Content Preferences among Yemeni Journalists,” which was submitted to Faculty of Mass Communication – Sana’a University. The PhD dissertation defense was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:

The dissertation aimed to:
- Identify the degree of media richness in Arab news websites and their social platforms.
- Analyze the news content published on them.
- Monitor and analyze the content preferences of Yemeni journalists regarding news content on those websites and platforms.
The dissertation reached several important findings, the most significant of which are:
- Digital texts ranked first in terms of content volume on Arab news websites and their social platforms.
- Regarding the types of digital texts on Arab news websites: Hypertext ranked first, and news ranked last.
- On social platforms: News ranked first, and the hashtag as text ranked last.
- Timeliness/Updating: Arab news websites achieved a perfect score on the updating scale, while social platforms achieved 3 degrees.
The dissertation presented several key recommendations, including:
- Conducting field and analytical studies specifically for each dimension of media richness.
- Conducting field and analytical studies based on linking the Theory of Media Richness with Artificial Intelligence applications in digital media.
- Conducting analytical studies for each social media platform
The PhD dissertation was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The PhD defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate’s colleagues, and family members.
