Master’s Degree Awarded to Researcher Suha Shihab with Distinction in Holy Quran and Its Sciences

Researcher Suha Mohammed Suleiman Ali Shihab was awarded a Master’s Degree in Holy Quran and Its Sciences with an average of Excellent and a grade of (95%) for her thesis titled: Nafa’is Al-Jawahir Al-Hisan Al-Bahiyyah fi Bayan Asrar Ma’ani Al-Ayat Al-Qur’aniyyah by the Yemeni Scholar Hasan ibn Ibrahim Al-Khatib Al-Zubaidi (d. 1265 AH): A Critical Study and Investigation of Surah Ghafir and Fussilat, which was submitted to the Department of the Holy Qur’an and Its Sciences, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026‎‎.

The thesis aimed to produce a scholarly critical edition of the manuscript Nafa’is Al-Jawahir Al-Hisan Al-Bahiyyah in accordance with established manuscript-editing principles, presenting the text in a rigorously documented academic form. The study also sought to verify and reference Qur’anic verses, Prophetic traditions, and transmitted reports; identify notable figures, places, and technical terms; and highlight the manuscript’s scholarly significance and its contributions to Qur’anic exegesis and sciences.
The study succeeded in producing a critically edited and authenticated version of the manuscript in accordance with recognized manuscript-editing standards. It revealed the author’s extensive reliance on the works of earlier exegetes, coupled with particular attention to the rhetorical and stylistic subtleties of Qur’anic verses. The research also contributed to preserving and making accessible an important component of Yemen’s exegetical heritage, while highlighting the scholarly contributions of Hasan ibn Ibrahim Al-Khatib Al-Zubaidi to the field of Qur’anic interpretation.
The thesis recommended conducting comparative studies between the author’s methodology and those of other exegetes in interpreting the deeper meanings and subtleties of Qur’anic verses. It also called for encouraging researchers to edit and study Yemeni Qur’anic manuscripts that remain preserved in manuscript collections and to utilize them in academic research.
The thesis defense was attended by faculty members, researchers, students, and interested participants as well as the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
