Sana’a University Launches the 6th Yemeni ORL Society Conference and the 2nd Conference of Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University today inaugurated the 6th Yemeni Otolaryngology Society Conference, held concurrently with the 2nd Conference of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty. The event brought together a large number of consultants, academics, researchers, and specialists from Yemen and abroad in a scientific forum aimed at promoting continuing medical education, exchanging expertise, and keeping pace with the latest developments in this highly specialized medical field.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Hatem Al-Dois, Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, the Faculty’s Vice Deans, Heads of Academic Departments, faculty members, and a distinguished group of consultants, physicians, and researchers from various governorates across Yemen.
The ceremony commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech delivered by the Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmad Al-Bukhaiti, who emphasized that otorhinolaryngology is one of the highly specialized medical disciplines experiencing rapid global advancement. He noted that this necessitates the continuous accumulation of scientific knowledge among physicians through continuing medical education, scientific research, the exchange of expertise, and ongoing engagement with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. He further affirmed that Sana’a University places great importance on supporting specialized scientific conferences as part of its commitment to developing medical competencies, enhancing the quality of medical education, and contributing to the improvement of healthcare services provided to the community.
The ceremony also featured several addresses. Dr. Mohammed Al-Maziqir, Chairman of the Conference Preparatory Committee and Secretary-General of the Yemeni Otolaryngology Society, reviewed the organizational and scientific aspects of the conference and outlined its objectives. Prof. Mohammed Al-Mahbashi, President of the Yemeni Otolaryngology Society and Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of the conference in strengthening scientific cooperation, exchanging expertise, and keeping pace with recent developments in the specialty. Prof. Abdulwahab Nasr, President of the Conference, also delivered a speech highlighting the conference’s scientific themes and the importance of its scientific sessions in facilitating knowledge transfer and presenting the latest medical practices.
The speakers collectively emphasized the importance of continuing to organize specialized medical conferences as scientific platforms that foster scientific research, facilitate the exchange of expertise, enhance professional skills, and provide access to the latest international advances in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat diseases. They stressed that such conferences play a vital role in advancing medical education and improving the quality of healthcare services in the Republic of Yemen.
The scientific program for the first day featured four specialized sessions covering the latest developments in middle ear surgery, cochlear implantation, nasal and skull base surgery, head and neck tumor diagnosis, and medical ethics, in addition to presentations on a number of advanced surgical techniques delivered by distinguished Yemeni and international experts. The sessions also witnessed rich scientific discussions that reflected the conference’s high academic standards and contributed to productive dialogue and the exchange of expertise among speakers and participants.
The conference aims to provide a scientific platform that brings together specialists to exchange expertise and experiences, while updating physicians on the latest scientific developments and diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical techniques in the field of otorhinolaryngology. It also seeks to enhance the quality of healthcare, support continuing medical education programs, and keep pace with the rapid advancements in this medical specialty.
The conference will continue tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, 2026, with specialized scientific sessions addressing functional nasal surgery, skull base surgery, middle ear diseases, and head and neck surgery. The event will conclude with a general discussion session followed by the closing ceremony.
