Academic Seminar Evaluates Master’s Research on Obesity and Nutritional Awareness at Sana’a University

The Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, Sana’a University, convened a public seminar (Seminar 2) to discuss the preliminary findings and progress of a Master’s thesis presented by graduate student Meshkat Khaled Saeed Al-Shaibani. The research is conducted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master’s degree and is titled:
“The Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity and Their Relationship with Nutritional Awareness and Physical Activity Among Female Employees at Sana’a University.”
During the session, the researcher delivered a comprehensive scientific presentation detailing the study’s background, research problem, significance, and core objectives. She outlined her methodology, which relied on a field survey of female personnel across Sana’a University, detailing the sampling technique, data collection tools, and anthropometric measurements utilized to evaluate obesity indicators. Additionally, she discussed the structured questionnaires used to measure nutritional awareness, physical activity levels, and dietary habits.
The researcher further presented the preliminary statistical data, illustrating the prevalence rates of overweight and obesity within the sample. She highlighted the correlations discovered between nutritional literacy, physical activity, and various obesity metrics, alongside the influence of specific socio-demographic variables analyzed through SPSS software to secure precise scientific outcomes.
The presentation was followed by an active scholarly discussion with faculty members and attendees. The dialogue centered on refining the research methodology, data analysis techniques, and the interpretation of results vis-à-vis the established theoretical framework. The committee members provided constructive feedback and academic recommendations designed to enhance the quality of the thesis prior to its final defense.
The seminar was attended by the Chair and faculty members of the Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition, and a group of graduate students and researchers, maintaining the department’s stringent standards of rigorous scientific inquiry.
