The Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment at Sana’a University is one of the leading scientific faculties in the Republic of Yemen. It was established in 1982 under Republican Decree No. (51) of 1982. Academic activities commenced during the 1984/1985 academic year with the aim of preparing qualified professionals in agricultural, food, and environmental sciences and contributing to sustainable agricultural development and community service.
Since its establishment, the Faculty has witnessed continuous growth in its academic programs, educational activities, and research endeavors. Student enrollment has steadily increased, and the Faculty currently serves 1,394 students across various academic levels. In 1988, the educational farm was established to support practical training, scientific research, and agricultural production. The Faculty subsequently moved to its current premises at the beginning of the 1990/1991 academic year.
As part of its ongoing academic and institutional development, the Faculty has updated and standardized its academic programs and course specifications in accordance with modern academic standards and the requirements of development and the labor market. In this context, Sana’a University Presidential Resolution No. (570) of 2020 approved the current name, "Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment," replacing the former name, "Faculty of Agriculture," to reflect the expansion and diversification of its academic disciplines. This was followed by Presidential Resolution No. (51) of 2021, which approved the updated academic programs and course descriptions.
The Faculty offers Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in a variety of specializations. It is committed to preparing scientifically and professionally qualified graduates capable of contributing to sustainable agricultural, food, and environmental development, supporting scientific research, and serving society.

To deliver educational programs that achieve sustainable development, meet quality standards, and develop human capacities to prepare graduates qualified to work in various agricultural, food, and environmental fields locally and regionally. The Faculty is also committed to conducting scientific and applied research to serve the community and support continuous development within a framework of teamwork, excellence, and transparency.

The Faculty comprises eight academic departments offering fourteen academic programs.
Established in 1989, the department prepares agricultural engineers specialized in crop production and genetic improvement. It offers two programs: Crop and Rangeland Sciences, and Genetics and Plant Breeding.
Established in 1996/1997, the department offers six academic tracks in horticultural sciences. It provides the Horticulture and Its Technologies program.
Dedicated to preparing professionals in food sciences and nutrition to enhance food security. It offers two programs: Food Science, and Human Nutrition.
Established in 1996–1997, the department covers three main areas in plant protection. It offers the Plant Protection program.
One of the earliest departments specialized in animal production since 1988. It offers the Animal Resources program.
Integrates engineering sciences with modern agricultural applications. It offers two programs: Agricultural Engineering and Modern Technologies, and Modern Irrigation Systems Engineering.
Focuses on soil, water, and environmental sciences and natural resource management. It offers two programs: Soil and Water, and Environment and Sustainable Agricultural Development.
Dedicated to agricultural economics, extension, rural development, and agribusiness management. It offers three academic tracks.
