SANA’A, YEMEN – The Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at Sana’a University officially inaugurated its annual summer training program today. Held at the university’s specialized educational farm, the first day of the program saw high engagement from students across multiple disciplines, working under the direct supervision of distinguished faculty members.
As part of a strategic organizational plan, Faculty has implemented a dual-track training structure. Five key departments—Horticulture, Field Crops, Plant Protection, Soil Sciences, and Agricultural Engineering—have been integrated into a unified training curriculum to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. Meanwhile, three additional departments are conducting specialized, independent programs tailored to their specific technical requirements.
The program began with a comprehensive orientation session. Faculty supervisors outlined the training objectives and field protocols, emphasizing the university’s commitment to experiential learning—bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.
Following the orientation, students moved directly into field operations. Initial activities included:
– Soil Sterilization: Students utilized specialized agricultural machinery to prepare the land.
– Scientific Fertilization: Groups implemented organic fertilization techniques based on precise environmental standards.
– Technical Skill-Building: The training emphasized collaborative group work to mirror professional workforce environments.
Reflecting a modern shift in the curriculum, the program includes a significant focus on Agri-Tech. Students received practical instruction on using digital applications for using GPS and digital tools for site identification as well as applying digital precision to land planning and resource management.
“This program is a cornerstone of our mission to equip students with the technical competencies required by today’s labor market,” the Faculty administration stated. By leveraging the resources of the educational farm, the Faculty aims to produce highly qualified graduates capable of driving innovation within the agricultural sector and contributing to community development.
The summer training remains one of the Faculty of Agriculture’s most vital academic pillars, ensuring that students transition from the university to the professional world with both confidence and proven expertise.
