Sana’a – Tuesday, April 14, 2026
As part of the Summer Training Program, Students of the Department of Horticulture and Technologies continued their practical activities, with the day dedicated to learning about pruning and trimming tools, which are key essential tools used in garden management and plant care.
The training included an introduction to several key tools, such as:
• Saws for cutting large branches
• Pruning shears for precise trimming of small branches
• Loppers for controlling medium-sized branches
• Hedge shears used for shaping shrubs and enhancing their aesthetics
Following the theoretical session, students moved on to hands-on application within the Faculty campus, where they practiced shaping shrubs using these tools. This allowed them to directly apply their skills and understand the importance of pruning in improving plant growth and maintaining visual appeal.
On the fourth day of the summer training, a joint field activity was conducted in the fruit orchard, bringing together students from various departments in a practical learning experience. The students were divided into two groups. The first group learned about types of fruit trees, pruning methods, and propagation by cuttings. The second group engaged in practical training on irrigation systems, including identifying components of drip irrigation networks and learning how to install and maintain them in the vegetable field.
Horticulture students also continued their applied work in the orchard, performing tasks such as basin formation around trees, pruning, and removing suckers and weeds. Such activities contributed to improving tree growth and maintaining productivity.
This training reflects the program’s commitment to integrating academic knowledge with practical application, helping to prepare students and equip them with advanced field experience in horticulture.
