PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Basheer Radwan in Information Technology

Mr. Basheer Ameen Mohammed Radwan was awarded a PhD degree in Information Technology for his dissertation titled: Three Dimensional Mobility for Multi-UAV Assisted Multi-access Edge Computing, which was submitted to the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | Position |
| 1 | Prof. Ammar Thabet Abdullah Zuhari | Internal Examiner | Chair |
| 2 | Prof. Ibrahim Ahmed Ahmed Al-Balta | Main Supervisor | Member |
| 3 | Prof. Ibrahim Abdullah Ahmed Al-Surmi | External Examiner | Member |
The Study aimed to investigate the impact of mobility and urban environments on data offloading to airborne edge computing via drones.
The researcher conducted extensive simulations involving 160 urban environments to assess the impact of mobility and urban environments on task offloading latency, using both directed and undirected antennas.
The Study yielded several key findings, including:
- Quantifying user sojourn time within the coverage zones of UAV-based edge computing stations.
- Determining line-of-sight probability using statistical and analytical methodologies.
- Developing mathematical models that can serve as input for planning processes of next-generation wireless networks (5G and 6G).
The researcher concluded his dissertation with several key recommendations, including:
- Employing the sojourn time models derived in this study for planning future networks to mitigate the computational complexity caused by mobility simulations.
- Utilizing these models to reduce task offloading failures and handover delays, thereby contributing to lower operational costs in next-generation wireless infrastructure.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
