Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Sadiq Sharaf Saleh in Computer Science

Mr. Sadiq Sharaf Saleh Al-Hammadi was awarded a Master’s Degree in Computer Science for his thesis titled: An Approach to Source Code Plagiarism Detection in Academia, which was submitted to the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The thesis aimed to propose a novel approach for detecting plagiarism in source code within academic environments, addressing the shortcomings of existing plagiarism detection methods.
The research yielded several notable findings, including:
- Proposing an innovative approach for detecting source code plagiarism in academic contexts.
- Developing a tool based on the proposed approach to identify source code plagiarism in academic contexts.
- Demonstrating the superiority of the developed tool over the widely used software JPlag.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended:
- Expanding the proposed approach to include additional programming languages such as C++ and Java.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, colleagues and the researcher’s family members.
