Historical Overview

About the Faculty

The rapid advancement of computer science and information technology has brought about significant changes across various social, economic, and technological spheres. Therefore, it has become essential for academic institutions, foremost among them Sana’a University—the oldest university in the Republic of Yemen—to keep pace with these developments by introducing academic specializations that have emerged in response to advances in computer science and information technology, thereby meeting the growing local and regional demand for such disciplines. Accordingly, a resolution was issued by the University Rector in the 2007/2008 academic year, followed by a decision of the Supreme Council of Universities, establishing the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology.

The Faculty comprises five academic departments: Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and Graphics. It offers bachelor's degree programs in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science, as well as postgraduate programs. The Faculty also hosts a branch of the Cisco Networking Academy, which offers courses in networking and information technology, and the Computer Center, which offers a diploma program in Information Systems along with training courses and consultancy services for the community.
