1.        Program Mission:

To produce distinguished academic and research competencies in language, literature, criticism, and rhetoric, combining originality and modernity to activate local community institutions and contribute to the global exchange of ideas.

2.        Program Aims:

·      To prepare researchers with a deep and thorough understanding of Arabic language, grammar, literature, criticism, and rhetoric.

·      To provide state institutions, particularly higher education institutions, with accomplished PhD holders in Arabic language and literature.

·      To fulfill the demands of research centers for researchers holding doctoral degrees in language and literature studies.

 

·      To empower Master’s degree graduates to advance their studies and obtain doctoral qualifications.

·      To provide a scholarly research environment that advances scientific research in language and literature studies

 

 

1.        Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs):

First: Knowledge and Understanding

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

1- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the curriculum content studied in the Faculty.

2- Exhibit a sound understanding of key linguistic and literary concepts.

3- Possess skills to conduct research and studies in their field of specialization.

Second: Intellectual Skills

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

 Admission and Graduation Requirements:

 

First: The applicant for admission to the PhD Program in Arabic Language and Literature must fulfill the following requirements:

  • 1- Master’s degree in Arabic Language from a recognized university with a minimum average grade of “good”.
  • 2- Master’s degree in Arabic Language and Grammar or Literature and Criticism from any recognized university with an average grade of “Very Good”.
  • 3- Compliance with the decisions of the Higher Education Council regarding the foreign language requirement.
  • 4- Adherence to the Graduate Studies Regulations regarding the admission prerequisites for the PhD program.
  • 5- Achievement of a minimum score of 80% in the written entrance exam.
  • 6- Successful completion of the personal interview with a minimum score of 80%.
  • 7- Commitment to full-time dedication to studies for the entire duration of the program.

Second: The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Arabic Language and Literature (Language and Grammar or Literature and Criticism) is awarded upon completion of the following requirements:

  • 1- Completion of a thesis within a minimum period of two years.
  • 2- Preparation and publication of two research papers.

Supervision and Viva Voce Regulations:

  • 1- This program within the Department of Arabic Studies, Faculty of Education, Sana’a University, adheres to all general regulations applicable to other departments with approved doctoral programs.
  • 2- The regulations, instructions, and guidelines governing the Faculty of Education–Sana’a and Graduate Studies at Sana’a University regarding doctoral programs are deemed an essential component of this program.
