Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Mohammed Al-Sabahi in International Development Studies

Mr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Sabahi was awarded a Master’s degree in International Development Studies for his thesis titled: The Impact of Educational Level On Health Awareness Among Chronic Disease Medication Users: A Field Study in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a, which was submitted to the Inclusive Development Research Center – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to examine the impact of educational level on health awareness among users of chronic disease medications in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a, by identifying how educational attainment affects patients’ knowledge of their condition, their health practices, and their adherence to medication.
The study yielded the following key findings:
A statistically significant effect (p ≤ 0.05) of educational level was found on patients’ knowledge of their condition, their health practices, and their commitment to medication use.
Significant differences were found in the average responses of the study sample regarding knowledge of their medical condition based on gender, in favor of males.
No significant differences were found with respect to health practices and adherence to medication across gender and age variables.
No statistically significant gender-based differences (p ≤ 0.05) were found in the relationship between educational level and health awareness among users of chronic disease medications.
The researcher offered a number of recommendations summarized as follows:
Organizing awareness-raising seminars for patients with hypertension and diabetes, as well as their families, highlighting associated risk factors, particularly since the symptoms of such diseases are often silent.
Stressing the importance of regular medical checkups for early detection, and regular follow-up with physicians to prevent disease progression.
Emphasizing strict adherence to prescribed medication.
Integrating fundamental principles of chronic diseases into educational curricula, including information about hypertension and diabetes (causes, symptoms, and patient-care guidelines).
The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, professionals, and family members of the researcher.
