Sana’a University Faculty of Medicine Hosts Orientation for Fifth-Year Medical Students

SANA’A – June 6, 2026 — The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University held an academic orientation and guidance session for the 40th batch of fifth-year medical students. The event aligns with the Faculty’s commitment to fostering direct communication with students and preparing them academically and clinically for the upcoming academic year.
The session was attended by Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Shehari, the Faculty Dean, and Dr. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs. Faculty leadership reviewed the fifth-year curriculum, clinical training modules, graduation requirements, assessment mechanisms, and the essential clinical skills students must acquire during this pivotal stage of their medical education.
In his remarks, Dean Al-Shehari emphasized that the fifth year represents a cornerstone in medical education, featuring advanced academic and practical demands designed to build students’ professional capabilities for specialized clinical practice.
“Faculty is dedicated to providing a supportive and stimulating learning environment,” Dr. Al-Shehari stated. “Through continuous curriculum evaluation and enhanced clinical training, we ensure our academic programs meet our mission of graduating highly competent medical professionals equipped to serve the community.”
Dr. Al-Shehari further noted that the university is making steady progress toward aligning its academic and training programs with modern international standards. He highlighted that these periodic student meetings are vital to the university’s academic development strategy, directly contributing to meeting the international accreditation criteria set by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). This is achieved by strengthening student engagement, enhancing academic advising, and optimizing the clinical learning environment.
Dr. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, underscored the importance of ongoing communication between students and administration. She encouraged students to utilize available academic channels to address any challenges, ensuring a productive and stable educational experience.
The orientation, which was also attended by faculty members Dr. Haitham Jawaj and Dr. Mohammed Bazdan, concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Faculty members addressed student inquiries and feedback regarding the upcoming academic year, facilitating effective academic planning.
This orientation is part of a comprehensive series of guidance sessions organized by the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences across various class levels. These initiatives aim to elevate student awareness of curricula, learning outcomes, and clinical requirements.
