First-year students from the Faculty of Mass Communication at Sana’a University conducted a field visit to the Yemen News Agency (Saba). The visit was organized as part of the Yemeni Media course taught by Dr. Samia Al-Aghbari, allowing students to observe journalistic and newsroom operations at a leading national media institution and learn about its historic role in covering national events and issues.
The students noted that Saba News Agency was chosen in recognition of its pioneering role in Yemeni journalism and its decades-long contribution to news reporting and event coverage. The agency has maintained its presence in the media landscape before and during the war, despite significant operational challenges.
During the visit, students toured the agency’s facilities to observe internal workflows and met with newsroom staff, who explained departmental roles and news gathering and editing processes. Agency staff answered student questions and provided source material to assist them with their field assignment.
Students observed that modest office infrastructure had not prevented the agency from fulfilling its media mission efficiently. They expressed that the experience offered valuable hands-on learning—marking their first field outing in journalism—where they practiced interviewing skills, information gathering, audio recording, and note-taking.
The visit concluded with positive feedback from the students, who highlighted that the outing helped bridge theoretical coursework with practical application inside professional newsrooms, strengthening their foundation for future media careers.
