The Faculty of Mass Communication at Sana’a University marked a major milestone on Sunday, celebrating 35 years since the establishment of Yemen’s first academic media department and 30 years since the founding of its first dedicated media faculty. The commemorative ceremony took place in the college’s main auditorium, attended by faculty members, students, and media professionals.
The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, and Assoc. Prof. Omar Ahmed Da’er Al-Bukhaiti, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, with academic oversight by Assoc. Prof. Omar Abrein. The Department of Public Relations and Advertising organized and participated in the program.
The proceedings opened with a Quranic recitation and the national anthem, followed by a series of speeches highlighting the history and evolution of academic media education in Yemen, the growth of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Sana’a University, and the contributions of the pioneering educators who laid the foundation for media studies in the country.
Senior students from the Department of Public Relations and Advertising (34th graduating class) spearheaded the planning, coordination, and execution of the event as part of their practical coursework in event management. Their hands-on responsibilities spanned program development, guest reception, venue setup, media coverage, and event logistics, showcasing their professional readiness in public relations.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Faculty honored two foundational figures in Yemeni academic media for their dedicated service and lifelong contributions: Prof. Ahmed Mutahar Aqubat and Assoc. Prof. Saif Ali Abdo Mukred.
Organizers emphasized that documenting the history of academic media, honoring its pioneers, and reflecting on its legacy strengthens students’ connection to their institution’s roots while fostering a culture of gratitude and professional pride. The initiative reflects Sana’a University’s ongoing commitment to preserving Yemen’s media heritage while equipping future media professionals with hands-on, real-world experience.
