Program Aims

  • Achieving an advanced level of scientific knowledge in both the literary and critical heritage, as well as in the fields of modern Arabic literature, criticism, and methodologies.
  • Introducing modern approaches and theories, enabling students to recognize their distinctive characteristics and differences.
  • Providing students with research skills, empowering them to undertake specialized research projects according to academic regulations and standards.
  • Laying the groundwork for cumulative academic progress and promoting the fundamentals of scholarly research.

Program Mission

To prepare well-versed researchers in critical approaches and literary schools, proficient in conducting literary and critical research and studies to serve Arab culture and human knowledge by upholding academic values in scholarly research.

Curriculum Organization:

Given the program aims to prepare graduates with diverse qualifications, including in-depth knowledge, research work, and literature and criticism instruction, the components of the Literature and Criticism Program are outlined as follows:

  1. Cultural Component: It focuses on fostering an understanding of community culture and cultivating general skills, such as communication and proficiency in information technology.
  2. Literary Criticism Skills Component: It includes the cognitive abilities fundamental to specialized knowledge in Literature, Methods, and Criticism.
  3. Vocational Component: It lies emphasis on equipping students with comprehensive professional knowledge and skills relevant to the analysis, critique, and teaching practices of literary texts within their field of specialization.

Admission Requirements for the Program:

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Arabic Language and Literature or its equivalent with a minimum average grade of 70%.
  • Applicants are required to fulfill the application and admission requirements endorsed by the Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at Sana’a University.
  • Applicants must successfully pass an entrance exam with a minimum score of 65%.

Graduation Requirements:

Graduation requirements should be specified accurately and clearly, and the following guidelines can be utilized:

  • Total credit hours required for graduation
  • Minimum marks to pass in each of the program courses.
  • Total number of marks or grades required for graduation.
