As part of the activities that have been assigned by the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources for the year 2024, a field visit has been conducted to the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. This trip included first-level college students under the supervision of Dr. Maryam Taher. During the visit, the students learned about the various departments included in the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority, the most important of which are the Geological Museum, the Central Laboratory, the agate trimming laboratories, and the thermal smelting unit, etc.
During this visit, the students also viewed exhibits of rocks, minerals, precious stones, and exhibits of the Paleozoic and Precambrian era, in addition to exhibits of the four-dimensional world, volcanoes, exhibits of the Mesozoic and dinosaurs, the Cenozoic era, the history of mining in Yemen, and finally exhibits of metals and industrial ores.
During the visit, a number of the Authority’s members explained the tasks and specializations of each of the Authority’s departments and explained the types of rocks and their cycle, especially the types available in Yemen, their economic importance and their uses in various industries such as the glass, cement, iron, and ceramic industries, and the stages that these industries go through.
The college extends its thanks and gratitude to the colleagues at the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority for facilitating this visit and for their efforts to clarify all the inquiries that the students asked during the visit.
