Sana’a University Hosts Specialized Scientific Day on Colorectal Cancer with Participation of Prominent Academics and Consultants

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in coordination with the Yemeni Council for Health Specialties, organized the fourth Scientific Day as part of the ongoing series of oncology surgery scientific days. The event was dedicated to discussing the latest scientific advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer, with participation from a distinguished group of academics, consultants, physicians, and postgraduate students.
The organization of this Scientific Day aligns with the University’s commitment to advancing continuing medical education and developing the capacities of healthcare professionals. It provides a scientific platform for the exchange of expertise and a review of the latest globally recognized medical practices in diagnosing and treating one of the most prevalent types of cancer.
In his address on the occasion, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has successfully established a distinguished model for continuing medical education through the organization of specialized scientific days. He noted that these events have become an important academic milestone for internship students, postgraduate students, board-certified physicians, and MD candidates, contributing to the enhancement of medical staff competencies and the improvement of healthcare service quality.
The Rector further stated that the University aspires to expand scientific partnerships with Arab and international universities, research centers, and medical institutions, in keeping with the rapid advancements in medical sciences, and to strengthen the presence of Sana’a University’s Faculty of Medicine in academic and research circles.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also indicated that the Faculty is approaching important academic milestones in the coming period, expressing confidence that the efforts undertaken by the Faculty leadership and teaching staff will yield further successes that enhance its academic standing and scientific leadership.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, announced the Faculty’s intention to develop the Scientific Day program into a biweekly event. This step aims to expand continuing medical education programs and keep pace with scientific developments across various medical specialties.
Prof. Al-Shahari commended the efforts of professors, consultants, lecturers, students, and the organizing committee, expressing appreciation for the support of partners in ensuring the success of these scientific events. He affirmed that institutional work and collaboration among various entities form the foundation for advancing academic and research performance.
The scientific program featured thirteen specialized sessions covering various aspects related to colorectal cancer. These included the latest radiological, pathological, and molecular diagnostic tools, screening and early detection methods, the role of endoscopy, modern surgical standards, systemic and radiation therapy, as well as the management of liver metastasis, organ preservation in rectal cancer cases, and the handling of related oncological emergencies.
Lectures were delivered by Prof. Naji Houmash Ghalib, Dr. Mansour Al-Hamli, Dr. Eman Al-Salami, Dr. Wael Al-Absi, Dr. Mohammed Al-Humaidi, Dr. Aqeel Mutahar Al-Shami, Dr. Loay Mohammed Al-Qubati, Dr. Al-Amin Abdullah Al-Nour, Dr. Waheeb Redman Al-Qubati, Dr. Fadl Al-Najri, Dr. Dhi Yazan Al-Muraish, Dr. Bashir Al-Salewi, and Dr. Mujahid Nahshal.
The sessions were marked by interactive scientific discussions and specialized interventions that reflected the high academic caliber of the participants. These exchanges contributed to the sharing of expertise and the discussion of the latest medical practices and challenges associated with the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.
This activity is part of Sana’a University’s ongoing efforts to consolidate a culture of scientific research and continuous professional development and to prepare qualified medical professionals capable of keeping pace with scientific advancements and delivering higher-quality, more efficient healthcare services.
At the conclusion of the Scientific Day, the Deanship of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences honored the professors and consultants who delivered lectures, presenting them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their scientific contributions and their role in the success of the fourth Scientific Day.
