As part of the Joint Summer Training Program, the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Modern Technologies conducted a field training visit to a vegetable farm, under the supervision of Dr. Samir Al-Mashreqi, Dr. Suleiman Sahari, Eng. Samar Al-Selwi, and Eng. Ahmed Al-Ghaithi.
The training focused on qualifying students to design drip irrigation networks. Key learning areas included identifying system components, mastering the installation of lateral lines, and determining appropriate spacing based on crop type. Students also received hands-on training in testing and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure operational efficiency.
Students were trained on the installation and maintenance of drip irrigation systems. They learned about the components of the system and the procedures for installing main and sub-main lines as well as emitters, taking into account proper spacing according to crop type. The training also covered inspection techniques, clearing clogged emitters, repairing leaks, and regulating water pressure to maintain efficient irrigation performance.
Additionally, students carried out a trial operation of the irrigation network after installation to verify uniform water distribution and ensure the absence of technical faults.
Participants included students from the Departments of Soil, Crop Science, Plant Protection, and Horticulture, with the aim of equipping them with the practical skills necessary to design, operate, and maintain modern irrigation systems.
This training forms part of efforts to enhance water-use efficiency and improve agricultural productivity through the scientific and practical application of modern irrigation technologies.
