Horticulture Students Gain Hands-On Laboratory Experience in Plant Tissue Culture

SANA’A, YEMEN — July 18, 2026 — Third-year students in the Department of Horticulture and Its Techniques at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment completed a practical laboratory training session as part of their Plant Tissue Culture course, under the supervision of Eng. Manal Al-Shar’abi.
The hands-on session focused on training students to prepare nutrient media under sterile conditions, representing a fundamental stage in plant tissue culture protocols prior to initiating in vitro propagation procedures. Students practiced standard laboratory techniques designed to ensure aseptic environments essential for successful tissue culture operations.
The activity introduced students to the strategic importance of plant tissue culture in micropropagation, elite cultivar preservation, disease-free plant stock production, and genetic improvement programs aimed at conserving plant genetic resources.
This practical application forms part of an ongoing series of laboratory exercises structured by the department to refine students’ technical competencies, master modern biotechnology tools, and bridge theoretical knowledge with professional agricultural practice.
