Sana’a University Highlights the Role of Scientific Research in Community Service During Poultry and Food Security Symposium

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Sana’a University Rector, the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, in partnership with the private sector, hosted a scientific symposium today titled “Poultry Industry and Human Nutrition: Toward Sustainable Production and Food Safety.” The event brought together a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and industry experts.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, alongside senior official leadership, government representatives, private sector leaders, and stakeholders in livestock and food security.
During the event, Sultan Al-Same’i, member of the Supreme Political Council, emphasized the critical role Sana’a University plays in serving the community through targeted scientific research and academic initiatives. He commended the university’s continuous academic momentum in addressing priority national issues, noting that the poultry sector remains a fundamental pillar for achieving food security and boosting the national economy. Al-Same’i called for expanding partnerships between academic institutions, government bodies, and the private sector to advance the industry on modern scientific foundations.
In his keynote address, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti reaffirmed the university’s commitment to its academic and national mission:
“Sana’a University fulfills its mission through impactful research, knowledge production, and the analysis of societal challenges to deliver practical, evidence-based solutions. We are dedicated to aligning our research output with real-world needs, fostering an environment of innovation that supports sustainable development across vital productive sectors—chief among them agriculture and livestock.”
Dr. Abdulrauf Al-Shawkani, Vice Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources for Livestock, stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the ministry and the university to leverage academic expertise in improving production efficiency and product quality.
Dr. Hesham Al-Jubali, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, noted that the symposium reflects the faculty’s academic and social responsibility to provide a collaborative platform for researchers, experts, and decision-makers to address challenges and identify growth opportunities within the poultry sector.
The event featured a documentary highlighting the current state of Yemen’s poultry industry, its potential, existing challenges, and strategies for enhancing its contribution to national food security.

Papers were presented by leading scholars from Sana’a, Dhamar, and Ibb universities, followed by dynamic discussions aimed at enhancing food safety and production standards.
The symposium concluded with several key recommendations, including:

• Expanding programs in genetic improvement, nutrition, and veterinary care.
• Strengthening university-government-private sector partnerships to boost production efficiency, sustainability, and food security in Yemen.
