Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Nouri Taher in International Development and Gender

Ms. Nouri Yaseen Qaed Asaad Taher ‎was awarded a Master’s Degree with distinction in International Development and Gender, taught in English,‎ for her thesis titled: Economic Incentives for Urban Rainwater Harvesting as a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy in Sana’a City, Yemen, which was submitted to the Inclusive Development Research Center – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

 

The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The thesis aimed to:

  • Examine the role of economic incentives in promoting Urban Rainwater Harvesting (URWH) as a sustainable adaptation strategy to address water scarcity and the impacts of climate change in Sana’a City.

The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:

  • The study indicated an urgent need for targeted economic incentives such as subsidies, tax exemptions, and microfinance schemes to encourage household and community participation in rainwater harvesting systems.
  • It also emphasized the importance of integrating economic mechanisms into broader climate adaptation and urban water management policies.‎

In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:‎

  • The study proposed policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and scalability of rainwater harvesting practices in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6: “Clean Water and Sanitation for All,” while strengthening long-term urban resilience in Yemen.

The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
