PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Abdulsamad Ali Ahmed Al-Banoos in International Development

Mr. Abdulsamad Ali Ahmed Al-Banoos Al-Mutawakkil was awarded a PhD degree in International Development for his dissertation titled: Strategic Leadership and Its Relationship to the Level of Reconstruction in Yemen in Light of Sustainable Development, which was submitted to the Inclusive Development Research Center – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 .
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation aimed to:
- Analyze the role of strategic leadership in achieving sustainable development through reconstruction and recovery programs in Yemen, with application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Examine leadership practices in light of post-war challenges and the need for effective leadership to support reconstruction and development efforts.
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:
- Strategic leadership is practiced at a high level within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- There is a statistically significant correlation and impact between strategic leadership, sustainable development, and reconstruction requirements.
- Sustainable development explains a substantial proportion of the variance in achieving reconstruction requirements.
- The overall effect of strategic leadership increases when sustainable development acts as a mediating variable.
- The environmental dimension contributed most significantly to achieving reconstruction requirements, followed by the social dimension, then the economic dimension.
The findings underscored the importance of integrating strategic leadership with sustainability principles to build an effective national reconstruction model.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Strengthening strategic leadership in government institutions through leadership development and enhanced decision-making processes.
- Emphasizing strategic orientation as a key dimension of leadership in supporting reconstruction.
- Integrating sustainable development dimensions into reconstruction plans, with priority given to environmental sustainability.
- Adopting economic and social policies that promote community participation and support small-scale projects.
- Positioning sustainability as a central pillar in national strategies.
- Developing a national model for sustainable reconstruction based on informed leadership and good governance.
- Ensuring continuous monitoring and evaluation of reconstruction projects to ensure effectiveness.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
