Sana’a University’s Water and Environment Center Concludes Specialized Training Program on Integrated Water Resources and Water Loss Management

The Water and Environment Center (WEC) at Sana’a University concluded today an intensive specialized training course entitled “Integrated Water Resources Management and Modeling, and Water Loss Management in Water Distribution Networks,” in the presence of Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University. The 15-day course ran from April 30 to May 17, 2026.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Zaid Al-Wareeth, Rector’s Assistant for Center Affairs; Dr. Taha Al-Weshali, Director of the Water and Environment Center; Eng. Mohammed Mudaas, General Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation (LWSC) in the Capital Secretariat; Eng. Mohammed Bilal, the representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); and Mr. Abdullah Al-Azab, the Executive Director of the Yemeni Red Crescent Society (YRCS).
The course was organized in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Yemeni Red Crescent Society (YRCS), with funding from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
It aimed to build the capacities of 20 engineers and specialists from the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in the Capital Secretariat, Sana’a. Participants received intensive theoretical and applied training focusing on the concepts of integrated water resources management, hydrological modeling of the Sana’a Basin, and techniques for reducing both technical and commercial water losses in water distribution networks.
In remarks delivered at the closing ceremony, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti highlighted the course’s success in linking academic and research expertise with practical solutions that address the pressing needs of Yemen’s water sector. He also commended the distinguished support provided by the KOICA and IFRC in enhancing the professional capacities of Yemeni specialists and advancing strategic planning efforts in the water sector.
The event concluded with the honoring of participants and the distribution of certificates, marking an important step toward applying the knowledge and skills gained to improve water management practices on the ground.
