Scientific Workshop at Faculty of Sharia and Law Discusses, Approves PhD Programs in Sharia, Law Tracks

The Faculty of Sharia and Law at Sana’a University organized today a scientific workshop to discuss and approve the Faculty’s PhD programs in three specialized tracks: Islamic Sharia, Public Law, and Private Law. The workshop brought together a distinguished group of academics, judges, lawyers, and specialists in Sharia and legal fields.
At the opening of the workshop, the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Prof. Mohammed Saad Najjad, and the Dean of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, Prof. Huda Ali Al-Emad, emphasized the importance of developing postgraduate programs and enhancing the quality of their outcomes in line with scientific developments and the needs of society and the labor market in Sharia and legal fields.
The workshop was attended by the Faculty’s Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Ismail Al-Wazzaf, and Vice Dean for Quality Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Mahbashi, along with a number of Faculty professors and a distinguished group of judges, lawyers, and legal professionals, including Judge Dr. Issam Al-Samawi, former President of the Supreme Judicial Council and former President of the Supreme Court.
The workshop reviewed the academic standing of the Faculty of Sharia and Law and its role in educating and qualifying specialized professionals in the fields of Sharia and law. The proposed PhD program documents for the three tracks were also presented and discussed, with particular attention to their academic components and scientific and technical requirements.
The discussions addressed various aspects of the proposed programs. Participants put forward a number of academic and technical comments and recommendations aimed at improving the programs’ content and enhancing their quality in a manner that achieves their academic and professional objectives and raises the standard of postgraduate outcomes.
The workshop concluded with a recommendation to approve the PhD programs in Islamic Sharia, Public Law, and Private Law, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening the role of scientific research and linking it to societal issues and the needs of the legal labor market.
The recommendations also stressed the need to orient the topics and titles of PhD dissertations toward priority legal and societal issues, thereby enhancing the contribution of scientific research to examining existing challenges, proposing evidence-based solutions, and supporting development and advancement efforts in Sharia and legal fields.
Participants underscored the importance of the workshop as a significant academic step toward developing the postgraduate education system at the Faculty of Sharia and Law and enhancing the quality of its academic and research programs, thereby reinforcing the Faculty’s role in preparing researchers and specialists and supplying legal and judicial institutions with qualified professionals.
