*From Soil to Screen: Sana’a University Mass Communication Freshmen Film Environmental Documentary on Soil Pollution*

As part of a practical assignment for their “Sustainable Development” course, first-year students at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Sana’a University conducted a field visit to the Faculty of Agriculture. Supervised by course instructor Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Lawa’, the visit aimed to produce an awareness film titled “Risks of Soil Pollution.”

The field trip introduced students to the vital role of soil in agriculture, allowing them to examine firsthand the hazards of soil contamination and its impact on crop quality and agricultural yield, while observing practices that contribute to soil degradation.

Additionally, the students learned methods and practices to preserve soil health and mitigate pollution sources, utilizing the field environment to gather data and capture visual footage necessary for producing the film.

The gathered content and documentation will be integrated into an awareness film examining soil pollution, highlighting soil preservation as an essential resource for agricultural production and a core pillar of sustainable development.

This assignment reflects the Faculty of Mass Communication’s commitment to enhancing practical application for first-year students, developing their skills in photography and cinematic documentation to address environmental and social issues while bridging academic concepts with field-based media practice.
