Sana’a University Advances 421 Places Globally and Retains Its Position as Yemen’s Top University in the 2026 AD Scientific Index

Sana’a University has further strengthened its international academic and research standing by achieving a significant advancement in the AD Scientific Index (July 2026 Edition), one of the leading global rankings for scientific research and academic publishing. The university climbed 421 places worldwide, moving from 3,597th to 3,176th globally, while also ranking 1,003rd in Asia.
With this achievement, Sana’a University has retained its position as Yemen’s highest-ranked university for the fifth consecutive year, maintaining a substantial lead over other Yemeni institutions. According to the ranking, Ibb University placed second nationally at 4,929th globally, followed by Dhamar University in third place at 5,077th globally. The 2026 edition of the index includes 30 Yemeni universities among more than 80 universities operating across the Republic of Yemen.
Commenting on the achievement, the Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, stated that this advancement reflects the university’s steadily growing academic and scientific reputation and is the result of the dedicated efforts of its faculty members, researchers, students, and administrative staff across its faculties and research centers. He noted that the university’s continued progress is supported by institutional policies aimed at enhancing the quality of scientific research and aligning its outcomes with international standards.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that the university places the highest priority on the quality of education, scientific research, innovation, creativity, and community service. He explained that Sana’a University continues to support researchers by providing a stimulating academic and research environment, encouraging publication in internationally indexed peer-reviewed journals, and continuously developing its academic programs, digital infrastructure, and educational and research services to strengthen institutional performance and international competitiveness.
He added that maintaining this level of excellence represents both an academic and a national responsibility, affirming that the university will continue investing in the capabilities of its academic and research community, expanding scientific partnerships, and fostering a culture of quality and excellence to further strengthen Sana’a University’s regional and international presence while advancing higher education and scientific research in the Republic of Yemen.
The Rector also expressed his deep appreciation to the university’s faculty members, students, researchers, and administrative staff for their commitment and dedication, describing the achievement as the result of institutional collaboration and teamwork. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to building on this success and further strengthening its leading role in serving the nation and contributing to Yemen’s scientific and developmental future.
The AD Scientific Index (Alper-Doger Scientific Index) is widely recognized as one of the leading international indicators for evaluating the research performance of academic institutions. The ranking is based on researchers’ productivity as measured through Google Scholar data, including the H-index, i10-index, and the number of scholarly citations.
The 2026 edition of the index evaluates 24,839 academic and research institutions, including 19,607 universities, and covers 2,637,515 scientists and researchers from 221 countries, spanning 13 major scientific disciplines and 221 specialized fields, making it one of the most comprehensive global benchmarks for assessing research performance.
