SANA’A – April 20, 2026
As part of its ongoing summer training initiatives, Department of Soil, Water, and Environment at Sana’a University conducted a practical field workshop on modern irrigation technologies. During the session, students successfully installed and operated a comprehensive sprinkler irrigation network across the greenbelt area of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment.
The training aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and field application, equipping students with essential skills in sustainable water management. Participants focused on the design and implementation of irrigation networks—critical competencies for modern agricultural practices that prioritize water efficiency and resource optimization.
Throughout the activity, students identified and assembled the core components of a sprinkler system, including water sources, main and lateral pipelines, sprinklers, and pumping units. Instructors provided detailed guidance on the specific function of each component to ensure balanced water distribution across varied landscapes.
The practical phase of the training included:
– Proper pipeline extension and secure connection techniques.
– Correct positioning of sprinkler heads to ensure optimal spray patterns.
– Adjusting angles and directions to achieve uniform coverage, preventing water waste and eliminating dry zones.
In the final stage, students conducted performance testing to monitor water pressure and distribution patterns. This phase allowed them to troubleshoot real-time technical issues and address leaks, fostering critical problem-solving skills necessary for professional field engineering.
This initiative underscores the Faculty’s commitment to preparing graduates for the agricultural sector by providing direct experience with the technologies shaping the future of water resource management.
The training was conducted under the supervision of:
– Dr. Abdulrahman Salah
– Mr. Abdulrahman Abu Hassan
– Eng. Khawla Abu Hassan
