Field Visit to Al-Ahjer: Sana’a University Agricultural Students Explore Local Farming Practices

Third- and fourth-year female students from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, Sana’a University, conducted a scientific field trip to the Al-Ahjer area in Al-Mahweet Governorate. Supervised by Ms. Eman Abdullah Al-Jalal, the visit aimed to strengthen practical training and bridge theoretical concepts with real-world agricultural practices.

During the trip, students observed Yemeni coffee cultivation and production, learning about local coffee varieties, farming methods, and economic significance through a detailed guide by a local coffee farmer. The visit also included a tour of peach orchards, where students examined peach cultivation, tree management, and key agricultural practices, alongside common pests and diseases, guided by a local producer.

The field trip enhanced the students’ practical skills, offered direct field experience, and connected academic coursework to real-world farming. It also highlighted the economic and agricultural value of coffee and peaches as signature crops of the Al-Ahjer region. This initiative reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to experiential learning, student skill development, and active engagement with local agricultural experts.
