Program Aims
- Preparing students to excel both as scholars and as critical writers of literature by deepening and extending their comprehensive awareness of the historical, cultural, and social contexts which affect the ways in which writers and readers construct meaning.
- Offering students opportunities for interdisciplinary and contextual approaches, including the study of texts in their historical context, and providing them with knowledge of and critical engagement with a range of literatures, including literature in translation.
- Developing students’ critical sensibilities and enabling them to identify discourse structures and composing processes as well as to demonstrate rhetorical flexibility along with a high level of control of the conventions of written academic English.
- Enabling students to learn the power of inquiry, critical and creative thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and connections across disciplines, while fostering an open-minded approach, conceptual sophistication in argumentation, and the ability to engage critically with a range of cultural forms and values.
- Developing students’ intellectual qualities of reasoning, analysis and creativity as well as skills of research, enquiry and independent learning that will be demonstrated in their Master theses.
Program Mission
To achieve excellence in the fields of literature and critical humanities within a milieu of educational research that contributes to developing society and preserving its identity by providing students with a solid foundation in literature and critical theories through a motivating learning environment that encourages research, critical thinking and creative writing skills, equipping them to pursue a PhD degree and to be effective writers.

Admission Requirements for the Program:
To be considered for admission to the MA program in Linguistics, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English language, English literature and critical theory, Linguistics or Translation from a recognized university.
- Applicants must have achievedan accumulative average grade in the Bachelor’s Degree not less than 65%.
- Applicants obliged to successfully pass both a written test and an oral interview conducted by the department.
- Applicants must fulfill requirements of Sana’a University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Graduation Requirements:
Students are eligible to obtain a Master’s Degree only upon fulfillment of the following requirements:
- Successful completion of all courses outlined in the study plan.
- Achievement ofan accumulative average grade of no less than 75%.
- Completion ofa research in English literature and critical theory, including successful completion of all associated assessments.
- Fulfillment of the minimum duration required for obtaining the degree, while adhering to the maximum duration stipulated in the study plan, in accordance with university academic regulations.
- Students who attain grades ranging between 64% and 75% will be awarded a postgraduate diploma in English literature.

A graduate holding a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the Faculty of Languages should demonstrate the following attributes:
