Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Ziyad Al-Seraji from Faculty of Pharmacy
Mr. Ziyad Mohammed Ali Al-Seraji was awarded a Master’s degree for his thesis titled “Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of some Pyrazolopyrimidine compounds as Anti-cancer Agents,” which was submitted to Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy – Sana’a University. The MA thesis defense was held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, corresponding to Safar 22, 1447 Hijri.
The MA Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | University | Position |
| 1 | Prof. Jalal Hamoud Al-Qadasi | Internal Examiner | Sana’a University | Chair |
| 2 | Prof. Shatha Hasan Yasin | Main Supervisor | Sana’a University | Member |
| 3 | Prof. Tawfiq Al-Obaidi | Co-supervisor | Sana’a University | Member |
| 4 | Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Saleh Al-Ghani | External Examiner | Amran University | Member |
This thesis aimed to design and synthesize ten pyrazolopyrimidine derivatives as potential anti-cancer agents and to conduct spectroscopic and biological analyses to determine their efficacy.
The thesis concluded that some of these compounds showed promising effectiveness through laboratory analysis using the MTT assay, demonstrating their ability to inhibit both cancer cells and the angiogenesis-related enzyme VEGFR-2.
Based on the findings, the thesis recommends:
- The necessity of directing research efforts toward developing anti-cancer drugs.
- Providing the necessary resources and support to complete research in this vital field, given the increasing prevalence of cancer in society.
The MA thesis was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The MA thesis defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate’s colleagues, and family members
