As the first in the Republic of Yemen, the Faculty of Pharmacy, with its distinguished scientific cadres, aspires to excel at the national level among all distinguished academic institutions that are recognized regionally and internationally.
The Faculty strives to qualify pharmaceutical students academically and globally with high professional ethics to compete locally, regionally and globally, provided with educational programs based on quality standards to support national pharmaceutical industries, meet labor market needs, and serve the community.

Dean's message
Praise be to Allah who taught Man with the pen that which he would not have known. And may His peace and mercy be upon His messenger Mohammed, the teacher of all humanity, and upon his family and companions.
Many are those people who do not truly understand the key role of pharmacists. In fact, they simply take pharmacists for being sellers of medicines which does not reflect of the reality. The pharmacist’s role would involve taking part with medical teams at hospitals throughout active engagement in serving patients. Accordingly, that requires a continual update of educational curricula particularly in Clinical and Hospital Pharmacy curriculums by developing the Pharmacy Doctor Program.
It goes without saying that successful foundation of any faculty of Pharmacy calls for sound academic and scientific planning in tandem with an update of curriculums in a way similar to those used in the most prestigious faculties of Pharmacy across the Arab regions and the world. In the Faculty of Pharmacy at Sana’a University, we spare no effort to establish an educational edifice standing tall and keeping pace with the latest global advances in Pharmaceutical education. The Faculty aims to provide the community with efficient pharmacists holding Bachelor Degrees in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy in order to occupy several positions in health sectors germane to medicine.

The Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Products specializes in studying the plant origins of medicinal drugs in their raw form and their apparent and microscopic properties. It also studies the active chemical components and their effect on the human body, methods of extracting them from their natural origins, and how to detect them
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry teaches how drugs are discovered or synthesized and how they work, in addition to studying the effects of changes in chemical structure on pharmacological efficacy. This includes striving to achieve a chemical structure with high efficacy and minimal side effects. Furthermore, the department teaches the changes that occur to a drug after it enters the body, known as metabolic changes, which may lead to the formation of substances with greater pharmacological efficacy or substances with harmful effects on the body, depending on the drug’s chemical structure.
The pharmaceutical chemist is constantly working to modify the chemical composition of a drug, either partially or wholly, to achieve a drug with more specific efficacy and less risk.
The department also teaches the methods used to control drug quality and subsequently authorize their entry into the pharmaceutical market.
This is achieved by understanding the methods to be followed in drug analysis, based on international pharmacopoeias, to ensure that safe and effective medication reaches the consumer.
The Pharmaceutics Department specializes in the theoretical and practical study of the physicochemical properties of the materials used in the formulation of pharmaceutical preparations and the effect of these materials on the effectiveness of the resulting preparations, as well as the study of the methods of formulating various preparations (solid, semi-solid, and liquid), sterile and non-sterile, whether at the pharmacy, hospital or manufacturing level, and then the study of the various tests that are carried out on these preparations according to the specifications contained in international pharmacopoeias such as the British Pharmacopoeia and the American Pharmacopoeia.
Through the pharmaceutics courses, students also learn about the most common pharmaceutical products available in the local market, as well as the necessary instructions for patients to use medication optimally. The Pharmaceutics Department has completed preparations to launch its postgraduate program leading to a Master’s degree and diplomas in pharmaceutical sciences, specializing in pharmaceutics.
The scientific research and graduation projects conducted in the Pharmaceutics Department focus on various aspects of drug synthesis, dissolution, absorption, distribution within the body, pharmacokinetics, analysis, and pharmacodynamics.
