Abstract:
This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of a training program based on economy knowledge skills in developing problem solving and decision making abilities of Science Teachers in Republic of Yemen. To achieve this aim, a semi-experimental approach, one-group design, in addition to de the descriptive and methodology were used.
Participants in this study were selected by Intentional sampling from science teachers, who teach in basic schools (the 3rd stage) of Sana’a district. The sample composed of 20 male science teachers.
A training program based on economy knowledge, and tow instruments to measure teachers abilities in economic knowledge, problem solving, and decision making were developed by the researcher. The researcher used the instrument of economy knowledge to identify trainers needs related to economy knowledge. So, the training program was developed in light of trainers needs of economy knowledge skills. After being assure that the study instruments have the acceptable levels of validity and reliability, they were used by the study sample before and after the training. Data was analyzed statically using (SPSS) program.
Results of the study revealed that:
1.The study determined 55 abilities for economy knowledge that science teachers should have. Abilities are distributed in fields of innovation, teaching strategies, technology using, communication and interaction, problem solving and decision making, in addition to evaluation.
- Using the instrument of economy knowledge to identify trainers needs related to economy knowledge showed that level of using all economy knowledge abilities by science teachers before training was weak to moderate.
- There were statistically significant differences, at the level of (0.05), in means of economy knowledge abilities between pre and post applications. The differences were in favor of the post application. The effectiveness of the training program was on the study sample was significant.
- There were statistically significant differences, at the level of (0.05), in means of problem solving skills between pre and post applications. The differences were in favor of the post application. The effectiveness of the training program was on the study sample was significant
- There were statistically significant differences, at the level of (0.05), in means of decision making skills between pre and post applications. The differences were in favor of the post application. The effectiveness of the training program was on the study sample was significant
Based on the results, the study concluded with a number of recommendations.
