this master’s thesis aims at evaluating the effectiveness of Botulinum Toxin a in the treatment of Oromandibular Dystonia (OMD) in a sample of Yemeni patients.
The study comes out with some results, of which significant improvements are observed in masticating ability, discomfort and pain levels following the EMG-guided Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) injections. 95% of patients show enhanced masticating ability and discomfort is reduced. Pain levels decreased in Yemeni patients notably after treatment of EMG-guided Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) injections.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this dissertation, of which:
– The use of EMG injection is helpful.
– Early treatment is rather important for patients suffering from Oromandibular Dystonia.
– The need for executing more studies on with a longer follow-up period, and
– The need for establishing a local society specialized in treating such cases.
Attendees of the session were a number of academics, researchers, interested students of the major, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
