Sana’a University Inaugurates Industrial Engineering Department
Sana’a, Yemen (July 18, 2024) – Under the auspices of Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammad Abass, the Faculty of Engineering today organized a workshop to announce the establishment of the “Industrial Engineering Department” within the Faculty.
The workshop was attended by faculty members and representatives from industrial and production institutions and companies from the public and private sectors. During his speech in the workshop the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Prof. Mohammad Al-Bukhaiti, emphasized that the strength of any nation lies in its engineering sector and that departments such as Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechatronics are the cornerstones of industry in any country.
The Minister praised the opening of new specialized departments at Sana’a University, such as the Industrial Engineering Department, as an important addition that is highly needed in the labor market, especially as Yemen is developing industrially in the fields of military manufacturing, electricity, energy, and various other sectors.
The Minister urged the Faculty Dean to accelerate the opening of the Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments, as they are equally important, and the Faculty has distinguished staff and necessary expertise in these fields.
He also called for government support for the educational process through the provision of the required equipment, tools, and laboratories, which would contribute to the development of this important field in the production and development process.
The Minister also commended the high performance of the Faculty’s academic and administrative staff, as well as the Students Forum, which was reflected in the quality of the distinguished graduates from Sana’a University who are respected by various service and development sectors locally and internationally, despite the difficult circumstances and limited resources.
On his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Abdullah Al-Maswari, highlighted the importance of the Industrial Engineering Department, showing that the Department aims to prepare professional industrial engineering graduates who are well-equipped with the required knowledge, skills, and tools to design, operate, and analyze industrial production systems and have the necessary capabilities to perform complex tasks and manage crises in manufacturing and service sectors locally and regionally. He further explained that the Department will help to meet the growing demand for skilled industrial engineers in the country and will contribute to the development of Yemen’s industrial sector.
Dr. Khalil Al-Hattab, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Head of the Industrial Engineering Program Document Preparation Team, stated that they were keen to invite participants from all industrial and service sectors to discuss employment opportunities for graduates of this discipline. He added that the Program Specification Document was prepared in accordance with international standards followed by international prestigious universities and based on national references for engineering graduates’ attributes.
During the second session of the workshop, the participants were divided into three groups. The first group discussed the program’s Vision, Mission, and Objectives, the second group addressed the Graduate’s Attributes and Learning Outcomes, while the third group discussed the program’s Study Plan.
