The master’s student, Adeeb Ahmed Mohammed Qahtan Al-Omari, obtained a master’s degree with a grade of 95% with an excellent rating, with a recommendation for printing and publishing in the Department of (Radio and Television), specializing in (Radio and Television), College of (Media) at Sana’a University, for his thesis entitled (The Role of Local Radios in Prioritizing Social Issues among the Residents of the Capital Secretariat – A Survey Study) today, Thursday, 1/26/1446 AH corresponding to 8/1/2024 AD. The discussion and judging committee consisted of Associate Professor Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ajil – Chief Supervisor and Committee Member, Professor Dr. Saleh Mohammed Ali Hamid – Internal Examiner, and Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Yazidi Al-Hawari – External Examiner and Chairman of the Committee. The thesis, in its descriptive and analytical parts, aimed to know the level of role and influence of one of the most important media outlets, which is community radio, on the various segments of the residents of the capital, Sana’a, through what the radios present in terms of issues in their social programs. The thesis reached A number of results, including:
1- The strength of the correlation between local radio stations’ ranking of social issues priorities and the respondents’ ranking of the same issues priorities increases the more the respondents discuss social issues with others.
2- There is a statistically significant correlation between the intensity of the respondents’ listening to local radio stations and their level of interaction with social programs on local radio stations.
3- There is a statistically significant correlation between the degree of respondents’ reliance on local radio stations as a source of information on social issues and the effects resulting from this reliance.
4- There is a statistically significant correlation between the objectives of respondents’ reliance on local radio stations as a source of information on social issues and the effects resulting from this reliance.
The master’s student presented a number of recommendations in his thesis, including:
1- The necessity of local radio stations in the capital Sana’a to use new methods in presenting social issues, and diversifying the means of highlighting the issues, as this plays a role in attracting the listening audience.
2- Establishing specialized local radio stations concerned with local social issues, and to touch on the concerns and issues of society.
3- It is preferable to produce diverse social programming content to encourage the listener to participate and interact.
4- Establish media research and studies centers that are concerned with the content of radio material and enhance the standards of coverage of social issues and address them in a manner consistent with local standards and activate these centers as well.
The discussion was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, interested parties, and a number of the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
