This Master’s thesis aims at evaluating the efficacy of intralesional bleomycin in vascular malformations of the head and neck region, not amenable to surgical excision.
The study comes out with some results of which 8 patients show 90% to 100% reduction in height, 16% patients have 80% to 90% reduction, 14 patients have 70% to 80% reduction, and 13 others have 60% to 70% reduction. The consistency also changed from soft/ cystic to firm. There are no major complications found of the procedure. Conclusions indicate 90% of vascular malformations are treated effectively using the bleomycin injection.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this dissertation, of which:
Bleomycin injection is an effective treatment for venous malformations and there is no need to take a biopsy and make an extraction in the tumor region to avoid heavy bleeding.
Attendees of the viva session were a number of academics, researchers, interested students of the major, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
