Sana’a University Launches PhD. Program in Political Science

Sana’a University hosted a two-day workshop on the inauguration of its first PhD Program in Political Science (15th-16th October 2024). The program, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, was inaugurated under the patronage of the University Rector, Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abass, and under the supervision of the Academic Development & Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC).
The event was attended by Prof. Ibrahim Luqman, Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies, prominent academics, researchers, and advocates for academic advancement, who recognized the program’s importance in bolstering Yemen’s political science research and equipping future scholars. Prof. Luqman highlighted the program’s significance and its potential to revitalize the University’s academic staff, calling for expanding graduate studies across disciplines.
Dr. Hani Al-Maghlis, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, emphasized the program’s groundbreaking status as the first of its kind in Yemen, responding to the growing demand for advanced study in political science. He highlighted the program’s role in offering researchers crucial opportunities for academic growth, particularly given the complex regional and international dynamics affecting Arab and Islamic nations.
Dr Abdullah Al-Tayyib, the representative of the Academic Development & Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC) also emphasized the importance of opening such postgraduate programs for the University’s academics and research scholars.
Dr. Noha Al-Sadmi, Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Head of the Political Science Department provided a detailed overview of the program’s structure, admission requirements, and graduation criteria, emphasizing its contribution to enhancing research and academic development at Sana’a University. The event concluded with a productive discussion where attending academics and researchers shared valuable feedback to further refine and develop the program.
