Sana’a University and Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water Sign MoU for Water Conservation
SANA’A, Yemen – Wednesday, 23 October 2024
Sana’a University and the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water signed a memorandum of understanding today at the University’s Water and Environment Center. This memorandum aims to enhance collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies and promote water conservation by leveraging the scientific and practical expertise of the Water and Environment Center. It also intends to activate partnerships between them in conducting studies on the water situation in Sana’a and developing sustainable, implementable solutions.
The MoU includes provisions for assessing the current water situation, compiling and reviewing previous studies, and comparing them with the present conditions to formulate a unified and comprehensive plan. It also focuses on directing scientific research to support the program of the recently formed Government of Change and Construction and enhance cooperation in renewable energy sectors.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Al-Kasem Mohammed Abass, University Rector, and Dr. Taha Mohammed Al-Washli, Director of the Water and Environment Center on behalf of Sana’a University, and Prof. Ali Saif Mohammed Hasan, Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water and Engineer Abdulsalam Mohammed Al-Hakimi, Director of the Studies and Training Center at the ministry, on behalf of the Ministry.
Prof. Abass emphasized the significance of the MoU in strengthening coordination and exchanging expertise, noting that it will contribute to the development of water resources management programs, such as rainwater harvesting and greywater treatment.
In turn, the Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Sana’a University, emphasizing the importance of providing scientific and technical consultations and training for technical staff. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Zaid Al-Wareeth, the Rector’s Assistant for Centers Affairs, along with several officials.
