Public PhD Viva-Voce Examination of Mr. Abdulkafi Abdullah Shamsan Mohammed
The Public Viva-Voce Examination for the PhD Dissertation hereto entitled, Literary Translation in Yemen: A Stylistic Study of Some Selected Translated Texts from English into Arabic’, submitted by Mr. Abdulkafi Abdullah Shamsan Mohammed, Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages, was held on Saturday, 15/05/1446 Hijri corresponding to 16/11/2024. The Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to shed light on literary translation in Yemen and the Yemeni contribution to this field. It also analyzes the translation of stylistic device in some works translated by the Yemeni translator Abdullah Farea.
The study concluded with a number of findings, including that literary translation in Yemen emerges in the southern part of the country due to the British occupation of Aden. It is also found that Farea’s translation is creative and maintains the essence of the original text and transfers its effects into Arabic.
The researcher made several recommendations, including the translator should avoid literal translation when it leads to confusion and ambiguity. The translator should keep as much as possible of the stylistic devices in his translation.
The PhD dissertation has been examined and is recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The Candidate was recommended to be awarded the degree of doctorate majoring in Translation.
The viva was attended by academics, researchers, students, and other interested individuals, including the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
